Wine

Glass bottles first began circulating through ancient Africa, Egypt, and Mesopotamia. The belief that spirits could live in these bottles quickly followed.

The hope was by hanging bottles in a tree, evil spirits would find their way into the wine bottles and become stuck. They couldn’t escape, and would remain in the bottle until morning, when the morning sun would destroy the spirits.

In 2010, Randy created a 9′ Bottle Tree, shaped like a Christmas tree. It held 291 bottles and stood proudly at Iowa’s Premier Beer, Wine & Food Expo in Des Moines. In 2014, Randy created a 10′ Bottle Tree that looked similar to a weeping willow tree for display at the Discovery Gardens at the Iowa State Fair. Fireside Winery corked the empty bottles so Randy could attach them to the end of the metal tree branches.
